Frequently Asked Questions about SOLAS Safe Pass Course

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a SOLAS Safe Pass Card, which is a recognized certification in the construction industry.

The assessment includes a written test. Participants must pass this assessment to qualify for the SOLAS Safe Pass Card.

To attend the course, you need:

  • One passport-sized photograph (note that Practical Training does not provide a picture service)
  • Photographic ID such as a driver’s license, passport, National ID Card, or public service card
  • A valid PPS number
  • You must be at least 16 years of age on the day of the training course

The course starts at 8 am sharp and ends at approximately 5 pm. Registration begins at 7.30 am, so please arrive early to complete the registration process.

A SOLAS Safe Pass Card is issued upon successful completion of the one-day Safe Pass training program. SOLAS issues this card within 3-4 weeks from the course date, and it is valid for 4 years from the training date.

The course requires a minimum of 8 participants and can accommodate a maximum of 10.

The Safe Pass Training Course should be renewed every 4 years.

If your Safe Pass Registration Card is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can apply for a replacement. Please contact us for more details.

Yes, you must be at least 16 years old to complete the Safe Pass Training.

For those without a PPS number, Practical Training can apply to SOLAS for a process number. Please contact us at least 7 days prior to the course to arrange this. A cover letter stating the project timeframe on company-headed paper is required. Failure to notify us in advance will result in an inability to remain on the courses.

Yes, there is mutual recognition between the UK’s CSR and Ireland’s SOLAS Safe Pass. The one-day UK CSR health and safety course is recognized as equivalent to the one-day SOLAS Safe Pass course. To transfer cards, contact SOLAS or CSR at customerservice@cscs.co.uk.

Currently, the Safe Pass course is not available online. SOLAS insists that the course must be tutor-led and there are no plans to offer it online.
